Loan Officers can do it online

I got paid the equivalent of 20 years after working for just 3 years.

If you have seen me speak at any of the mortgage conferences, you know I’m on the younger side of things (I’m 35 years old).

When I first started, I noticed that it was much easier to get referrals if you have a strong reputation.

You’ve likely noticed this too.

The Loan Officer with the most commanding personal brand is the one getting most of the Realtor referrals.

Here’s what I realized though…

A reputation isn’t something that has to take years or decades to create.

There’s a formula that can accelerate it significantly.

First, you want to establish your personal brand and the reputation you’re hoping to achieve. There’s no point in marketing or meeting with referral partners until your personal brand accurately reflects who you are, what you’re good at, and what you are building.

Marketing prior to this is a waste of time and may actually harm your reputation. Many of the top referral partners will only meet with you once. If you look like every other Loan Officer… you will likely miss your shot at doing business together.

Second, your marketing efforts should solidify your reputation. PLEASE do not just do marketing. When you do something that your referral partners will see, make sure that it makes you look the way you want to look. Most Loan Officers are sending out canned spam emails, sharing the same “value” that was provided to you by your company or some other resource, or inviting them to an event with the expectation of them eventually sending you referrals.

Marketing for the sake of marketing will harm your personal brand and damage your reputation. Instead, do things with them that will give them a better idea of who you are. Look at your personal brand and then ask yourself, “What would a person like that do for their referral partners.”

Lastly, we need numbers. If you’re like me, you want to make as much money as possible with as little effort as possible. For this reason, all of your marketing efforts should be scalable. In my coaching program, we use 3 marketing strategies that can scale endlessly.

A reputation is what people say about you when you aren’t in the room. Yes, they take time to build. But, not as long as you think. For many people, showing up in a big way can put you on the map in a matter of months… not years.
