hard for LOs to stay entrepreneurial right now

I get it… much of this is out of your control.

And, you have options.

I spent the first 5 years of my entrepreneurial career in the medical field.

My income potential was limited by outside forces.

Insurance decides how much they will pay me and there’s nothing I can do about it.

The federal government makes horrific decisions that can cripple my fiscal year.

Mortgage is in a similar boat.

Like all licensed professionals… we are at the mercy of regulations, rates, inventory, and market fluctuations.

Not to mention being heavily reliant on referrals.

There’s a lot of talk about going “consumer-direct.”

But, trust me… if that day comes… independent LOs won’t have the resources to compete with the tech companies (look at the other industries that became consumer-direct… big tech always wins).

Some will read this and think… wow… so much negativity and scarcity.

You can say that… but, I’m just being an entrepreneur.

There has never been an industry that remains untouched.

All of them get squeezed at one point or another.

It’s nothing to worry about… As long as you have a plan.

Most Loan Officers will wait for the money to dry up before they pivot. I’m not sure why people do this? It creates a very stressful environment to be in. It’s hard to think clearly when you have a fire underneath you.

Most entrepreneurs have multiple businesses going at the same time. This way, a few of them can struggle and you don’t have to stress out. It gives you a window of tolerance so that you can course correct. You might have a few years when all of them are thriving. These are great times to save and invest. But, there always comes a time when profits become thin. For entrepreneurs who have multiple businesses, these times don’t scare them.

Top producers should be thinking really hard right now about the future. What is the new plan of attack?

Thinking about your skill set and everything you have learned over the years… Where can you use your expertise to help people? What would someone pay you to help them with? What problems are you uniquely qualified to solve?

If you can’t answer the questions above… it’s going to be difficult for you to be the entrepreneur you could be.
