Why LOs procrastinate
Your mortgage business has the potential to run without you.
You know what you need to do…
But, then you don’t do it…
You are so close to living a life by design, yet you continue to let time pass you by.
Why does this happen?
- Fear of your team walking out on you
- Fear that your referral partners won’t send leads to your team instead of you
- Not trusting yourself to act like the entrepreneur you want to be
Fear of your team walking out on you
This has to be the most common limiting belief I hear from LOs as a coach. The fear that your team will judge you and stop working hard if you are no longer in the trenches with them. This is a story you tell yourself and it’s not true.
Let’s look at the facts. Your team members need to work somewhere, even if it’s not for you. Most of them do not want the responsibility of ownership. All employees understand that there are benefits that come from taking on the risk as an owner. The fact is that they will understand your job as the owner and continue to work just as they did before.
Now for the “not so fun” facts: culture and systems matter. If your work culture sucks (or is totally absent) you will run into problems. Your team members want the same thing all of us want… to be recognized and listened to. Removing yourself from your mortgage business requires a strong work culture. It is your job as a leader to create a workplace that allows each team member to be an entrepreneur within their piece of the business. Employees work the best when they feel as if they own their job and that the other members appreciate their work.
Systems will set you free. Solid business systems will not only decrease your stress, but they will allow your team to operate stress-free as well. Anxiety comes when we don’t trust our business systems to produce the desired result. Your team knows how to close loans… It is your job to help them build systems that do it reliably and consistently.
Fear that your referral partners won’t send leads to your team instead of you
My preferred realtor lives on the golf course. I’m not sure when the last time was that he stepped foot in one of his listings. He is the top producer in the city and has an amazing team to see things through. So, if he is always golfing and on vacation, why do people (including myself) continue to use him to sell their homes? Because we know his systems are stellar and that his team will sell your home for 5% more than his competitors could have.
People admire business owners that have it all together. We don’t care if they work 60 hour weeks… just that the job gets done with excellence. The reality is that your lead generation will increase as you start being in the world as an owner and entrepreneur. Working IN the business does nothing for your growth.
Not trusting yourself to act like the entrepreneur you want to be
Limiting beliefs and false beliefs. There always seems to be an excuse as to why you don’t have the dream work schedule. You can try to pretend that you aren’t ready, but that’s just another excuse.
Get out of your own way. Overthinking everything will get you nowhere. Action and implementation are what matters. Mistakes will happen… but wouldn’t you rather make a few mistakes for the next year, rather than suffer for the next 10 years or more?
