Do I want to do this for another 20-30 years?

The mornings feel different.

It is harder to get out of bed.

Income is at record levels.

Your dream car is in the driveway.

So much has gone right.

Yet, you know there is still so much to do…

There is an odd phenomenon that happens in the Mortgage Business after 5 years of consecutive success. A shift occurs. Your initial drive is not as important as it once was. Operations and efficiency take center stage. The focus shifts from what is going well to what could be improved. This is natural and normal for a business owner. After all, the entrepreneur typically embraces change and innovation. You look at challenges as an opportunity to improve and overcome hardship.

The problem with this shift is that it is less fulfilling. As “the cause” becomes less of a focus. You shift your attention towards problems and challenges in the business. There is a saying, “what you focus on, you get more of.” Therefore, you get more problems and challenges. You justify these feelings as the “cost of ownership” or “growing pains.” But that can only last so long. Eventually, it becomes difficult to justify. Soon, the only thing that remains is overwhelm and defeat. That’s when the question comes to you…

“Do I want to do this for the next 20-30 years?”

How does one escape? …

Shift your focus to efficiency.
  1. Increase your $ per hour
  2. Increase your happiness per hour

A new game awaits you. How high can you get your hourly wage? What can you eliminate from your schedule? Can someone else do it instead of you? What is the minimum amount of time needed to sustain business growth? This is the first glimpse of freedom. The focus now becomes working less and living more.

Happiness per hour pays out in two ways. One, work becomes meaningful and fulfilling. Two, your happiness is contagious and ends up increasing revenue to record highs. How do you increase happiness per hour? By doing the work that resonates deep within. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses. It is your obligation to operate only in their area of strength and passion. This is leading from the top and always is a catalyst for success.

A message to all Mortgage Professionals. Don’t let your work fall flat. Don’t forget why you do this. Remember the dream life you wanted and follow it through to the end. Shift your focus to efficiency and happiness. You won’t regret it and the market will embrace you.
