Now, with social distancing guidelines, it is the new platform for human connection and business networking.

Virtual networking is no different than networking in person. When you are making new friends and contacts online, imagine you are doing it in person. Can you imagine walking up to someone you don’t know and asking them to buy something? I hope not. So, why would you do this online?

The virtual world may be even more simple than the physical world. When speaking, it can be difficult to listen and then generate meaningful thoughts in the way that you want to be understood. When online… you can take as long as you need to formulate the perfect response.

Are they a complete stranger? How do you know what to say? On social media, you have total access to their profile and their history. This is a networking godsend! Everything you need to know is right there in front of you. Find something on their profile to create conversation. Trust will only be formed between strangers though finding mutual understanding and common interest.

Does this sound like a big waste of time? Maybe so… but, people are doing it… and if you don’t find a way to join in… you could find yourself behind the virtual curve.
