Being insignificant sucks… and it makes getting loans harder.
It’s hard to stay motivated when nobody cares who you are.
There’s no denying that it’s easier for the top Loan Officers to get referrals.
But, it’s only easier because they are significant.
People know exactly who they are, what they are good at, and what they are passionate about.
It’s clear what a referral to them means.
What does a referral to you mean?
Why should they want you to be more successful than the other LOs?
For most borrowers and Realtors, a mortgage is a mortgage is a mortgage. People choose the Loan Officer they like most. Don’t believe me? Look at the Top Producers in the country. Most of them are selling higher than average rates and very generic products. They are using the same marketing strategies that all of the other LOs are using… So, why do they get better results?
Successful personal branding in mortgage comes down to the person behind the personal brand.
I might be the only one who feels this way… but, I notice a big difference between those at the top of the mortgage industry and those who aren’t. Their personal brand displays confidence, a strong sense of self, and a clear direction. They know what they want and exactly what they need to do to get there.
Isn’t this what personal brands are supposed to do? Show people who you are?
This obsession with talking about mortgages is a bit odd to me. I’m not sure who decided that was a good personal brand. Sure, positioning yourself as an expert is a part of personal branding… but only 33%.
Personal branding is about clarifying who you are and what kind of people you work with. Most of this has nothing to do with mortgages. People are attracted to people… not Loan Officers. Show people who you are, NOT what you do for work.
Significant people don’t spend their life selling themselves and trying to make money. They are creating change and making an impact. Rather than posting about how you can help someone get a mortgage, post about the amazing stuff you are involved with. Show them someone investing in themselves and taking risks.
This world is tired of being sold to. The best personal brands aren’t about selling… They are about the person behind the personal brand.
